Maryland

You couldn't possibly see everything the state of Maryland has to offer in one trip without moving here. From the mountains to the ocean, from modern cities to historical villages, there's something for everyone. Here are the four can't-miss stops on your itinerary:

- The Baltimore Inner Harbor (http://baltimore.org/about-baltimore/inner-harbor) has activities for everyone. Hands-on museums, a world famous aquarium, and top quality dining overlook the beautiful and historic harbor. For a few dollars, you can even rent a paddleboat and patrol the harbor yourself. Don't miss the boat ride to Ft. McHenry, where you can stand and imagine the scene that inspired Maryland native Francis Scott Key to write the national anthem.

- The C&O Canal National Park (http://www.nps.gov/choh/) is nearly 184 miles long, runs from the mountains to the sea through most of the state of Maryland, and makes a wonderful stop on any tour. From fascinating demonstrations of the canal locks to living history displays, this park is a great learning opportunity - or just a chance to run around in the sunshine.

- Antietam National Battlefield (http://www.nps.gov/anti/) is a haunting place. Maryland was the first northern state to host a Civil War battle, and this was where it happened. The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest single day battle in American history. Visit in September near the anniversary of the fight for the full effect.

- Ocean City, Maryland (http://www.ococean.com/) has a fond place in the hearts of many people from this beautiful state. The long wooden boardwalk, connecting fine hotels to the more economic options, is a two mile stretch of crab shacks, games, shops, and sand. There's a very affordable bus running the length of the boardwalk, so all you have to do is focus on the fun.
