To many, Iowa is a state filled with corn fields or known for its baseball. While this is true, the state has so much more to offer with its hot and humid summers followed by its cold winters. Visit the Amana Colonies: These colonies were the beginning of what would become Amana appliances. Founded in the 18th century by German immigrants the seven colonies were a pure communal society until the end of World War II. Many of the building are exactly the same as they were in the 18th century. Also be sure to visit the many restaurants and bakeries throughout the seven colonies to experience true German cooking at its best.
See Better Homes and Gardens Test Garden: Located in the middle of downtown Des Moines, Iowa this beautiful garden is the testing grounds for the different types of landscapes that they show. If you are into botany then this is well worth your time when visiting the state.
Visit the Des Moines Art Center: This world renowned international art museum hosts some of the 19th and 20th century’s famous artists such as: Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keefe and Henri Matisse. Housed in three buildings the museum offers wide variety of activities that the whole family can enjoy while visiting the state.
