If you are looking for a state to visit that offers a little bit of everything, Illinois ("The Land of Lincoln") is an excellent option. Undoubtedly most famous for Chicago, the state of Illinois is also home to many interesting historical sites related to the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

Chicago, Illinois is the second largest city in the country and a really fascinating place to visit. Out of all of the areas in Illinois, Chicago is by far the most famous, and the most-visited. Home to the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, The Magnificent Mile, The Navy Pier and many top of the line restaurants and museums, Chicago, Illinois is a must see stop on any tour of this state.

History buffs will find the state of Illinois a wonderful place thanks to its many Abraham Lincoln-related spots. Lincoln is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Visitors can also see many famous Lincoln sites in and around Springfield, which is the capital of the state as well.

For more recent history, it has to be noted that President Barack Obama was a senator for the state of Illinois before being elected president, and he still owns a home in Chicago. Visitors can also take walking tours of areas in Chicago frequented by Obama.

A small portion of Illinois is also located on Lake Michigan, so beach enthusiasts and boaters are sure to find plenty to do in this state. Definitely make a point to check out some of the Lake Michigan scenery if you take a trip to Illinois.

No matter where you end up going in the state, a visit to Illinois is certain to be a very memorable vacation for the whole family.
