Connecticut, known as the "Constitution State", is one of the oldest states in America. Thanks to this fact alone, Connecticut has a vast, rich history and many fascinating historical sites for travelers to peruse. The first major settlements in this state were founded in the 1630s, and Connecticut has preserved many of the historical artifacts from colonial times which are sure to dazzle history students.
One particularly enjoyable tourist attraction in the state of Connecticut is the Mystic Seaport, located in Mystic, Connecticut. Here, tourists can see actual ships dating back as far as the 1800s, as well as a nautical museum. Mystic also boasts many unique shops and cafes for travelers to enjoy. One fun fact about Mystic, Connecticut is that the pizza shop featured in the Julia Roberts film "Mystic Pizza" is there and can be visited.
Another fascinating place to visit in Connecticut is the city of Hartford, where one can see a house where Mark Twain once lived and where he wrote his most famous novel, "Tom Sawyer". Also, Harriet Beecher Stowe historical sites are located in Hartford. These, of course, are simply examples of the many interesting places to see in the state of Connecticut.
Connecticut also boasts many beautiful beaches; over 12% of the state's border lies on the Atlantic Ocean. During the hottest summer months, such as July and August, travelers can stop at one of Connecticut's many charming beaches to cool off in the refreshing Atlantic waters, catch some rays, and perhaps enjoy a snack or beverage from one of the beach vendors.
