Arkansas

Arkansas cities and towns provide tourists with a large list of potential activities. In 2008, tourism in the state increased by almost four percent, proof that people are finally taking notice of the wide array of intriguing sights.

Little Rock, Arkansas’s capital, borders the Arkansas River. One of the highlights of this city is the River Market District. This large open area bordering the river is an open food market where you can choose from a number of bars, restaurants and cafes. The Riverfest Amphitheatre hosts frequent outdoor concerts. Also, visit the Clinton Presidential Center and Park.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find a number of Arkansas state parks. Pinnacle Mountain State Park offers panoramic views of Little Rock. Eureka Springs is in the heart of the Ozarks and is a popular destination for fishing, camping and hiking. In Hot Springs, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains is popular with those who want to try crystal mining, golf and a number of water sports in the three surrounding lakes.

Fort Smith, a former military post in the Arkansas River Valley, is a perfect destination for anyone who wants to experience life in the Old West. While in Fort Smith, visit the many historic sites and museums.

If you love a challenging round of golf, Bentonville is a suitable choice. Home of the Wal-Mart headquarters, this quaint town is packed with homes on the state historic registry and seven championship golf courses.

Whether you enjoy being outdoors, visiting museums or wish to spend your time shopping and eating, you’ll love every corner of this state. With plenty of wide-open spaces, there is room to explore without dealing with congestion found in many touristy areas.
